GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR “LA VICTORIA
GENETIC IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
General guidelines for the genetic improvement program / main lines of work
of the cattle-breeding program.
IDIOMA
Genetic Core, made up of solid and
consistent families, which allows us to
generate a differentiated product, “Zeni”
Genetics.
Breeding Mothers Stock, made up of
functional and efficient dams to produce
breeding animals consistent with
genealogy and objective information.
Commercial Herd on a scale oriented to
produce quality beef.
OUR VISION
In the spring of 2010 we started a genetic improvement program with the objective of
producing genetically superior breeding stock, managing and working on the existing
breeding stock.
This also required defining and standardizing an efficient, rustic and functional Brangus
biotype, adapted to produce in hostile environments.
The raising of these breeding animals must be done at scale, with strict selection pressure and
objective information, so that the program is efficient and sustainable over time.
Another key premise is to positively influence commercial herds with our genetics, having an
impact on our final product, the beef, and eventually bringing a productive and economic
benefit to the company.
Basically, with these objectives and with a differentiated management, in a stock and in a
commercial/general herd, the tendency is to build a pyramid structure, where at the base
there are many individuals of lower quality and, as they go up the pyramid, the quality of the
breeding animals increases, reaching the top with the best of our genetics.
This structure in no way implies watertight compartments, but rather dynamic, where the
performance of the animals conditions the movement up or down the pyramid.
At the same time, it allows the individuals at the top of the pyramid, through their offspring, to
pass on their genetics and have an impact, thus increasing the quality of the individuals at the
base, as well as the base to provide us with genetic variability and blood flow up the pyramid.
In short, at the beginning of the process we work at the top of the pyramid, generating
genetically superior breeding animals, which have an impact on the entire production
chain and bring about the quantitative and qualitative transformation
of our final product, the beef.
